iPod Ad

I created an old style iPod Ad in Adobe Illustrator with a photograph of myself in the lotus position and the text “iGrow.” The design is meant to show my current focus on personal growth, as I am in the middle of changing careers, and to illustrate my love of plants. To achieve the planned look, I started by creating a solid green rectangle centered on the canvas. Then, I placed the photo onto my canvas in a new layer at a lower opacity and used the pen tool to trace an outline around my figure onto a new layer. Using the curvature tool and the anchor point tool I gradually evened the outline out. Next, the outline was filled black to make a silhouette. An image of a potted plant was similarly traced, filled to be white, and centered on the figure to look as if I was holding the plant. Lastly, the text was placed in white to give the ad it’s finished look. In summary, the finished ad is a good visual representation of the old iPod advertisements and it also evokes thought on multiple levels, i.e. personal growth, growth of life, and simple plant care.
